Youth News This summer has flown by and school is right around the corner! The FUMC Youth group has a really exciting year planned! Once we start, we won’t be stopping! Announcements and Upcoming Events*UMYF will begin again for the 2010-2011 school year on Sunday, August 29th from 5-7PM in the Youth Area on the second floor of Epworth Hall. All youth grades 5-12 are asked to attend. We will be splitting into small groups to accomplish our goals. We will first be learning about how to build a worship service and learning the essentials of public speaking and presentation. We will also be having fun fellowship through a board game night, smoothie/ sports night, and an ice cream social. So come join us for fun and fellowship!
Preschool Playground Mulching August 28- 9:00AM For his Eagle Project, Alden Sharp essentially rebuilt the FUMPers playground. About 2 years later, he is continuing this project by getting a group together to help with some annual upkeep. He has asked two of the most prominent organizations involved with this project, Boy Scout Troop 84 and the FUMC Youth group to help him out. Thanks for your support for both Alden and the FUMC Preschool! We are in need of volunteers in the following areas: Sunday evening MYF small group leaders (Junior High and Senior High) UMYF Suppers Sunday School teachers/ helpers (all ages) Wednesday evening FUSION (all ages in dance, music, and drama) Fundraiser helpers Chaperones for occasional events If you would like to help out, please contact Rachael Jordan at rjordan@fumcgnv.org. Children and Youth Volunteer Training September 18- 8:30AM-3PM All volunteers are required to have a background check and attend this training. It will help you to become comfortable with teaching children and/or youth and will give you a good understanding of our programs specifically at FUMC. Shoo Your Shoes Sunday September 26- All Day (but mainly at the 10:55 church service) Thousands of people around the world don't have any protection for their feet. Even right here in Gainesville, many homeless folks go without shoes and/or socks daily and consequently get serious diseases, infections and injuries to their feet. Challenge: Can you shoo your shoes for just one day? Try to see how long you can last without wearing any footwear on September 26 to support this need. Service: We will be collecting new or slightly used sneakers/ tennis shoes and socks of all sizes throughout the week of September 20-26. All donations will be given to the FUMC Helping Hands Clinic to benefit the homeless community of Gainesville and can be brought in to the church office or the church services on the 26th.
