Disciple Bible Study

Are you looking for an in-depth Bible study with lively discussion? First UMC is hosting Disciple 3: Remember Who You Are  - an online study starting Monday, September 12, 2022. This  will be a fascinating, 32-week adventure with The Prophets and the Letters of Paul. Disciple Bible Study is the gold standard of UMC Bible studies combining daily readings, weekly discussions, and spiritual insight for all participants. There are no prerequisites for this course other than a commitment to setting aside approximately 30 minutes a day for reading and preparation for the weekly discussions on Mondays from 7:00-8:30 p.m.

Space is limited, so consider signing up early to make sure you get a spot! (Use the form below to register.) If you are interested or just have questions, you can contact Susan Webb at disciple@fumcgnv.org. The required study manual is available online through Cokesbury for approximately $45. Since we feel that Bible study is an important part of your faith journey, we have limited scholarships available to help defray the costs. Please contact Janet Rocap at janet@fumcgnv.org for more information on scholarships.

WHAT IS DISCIPLE?

Disciple is based on the assumption that the texts of Scripture were written by human beings in specific cultural settings, under the divine inspiration of God. The study gives equal time to the Old and New Testaments, emphasizing the wholeness of the Bible as the revelation of God.

Disciple requires a commitment in preparation (at least 30 minutes a day, including time spent on the Discussion Board, as well as reading), presence, and participation, both in weekly Zoom meetings and on the online Discussion Board. The class lasts a total of  32 weeks, including an orientation session.
