Lent Events

Every Thursday at 11:00 a.m.
through march 28

Take a Lenten journey with the handbells of First UMC. Every Thursday, through March 28,  at 11:00 a.m., anyone willing to step into a new adventure learning handbells is welcome to join our Fellowship of the Ringers. If you have never touched a handbell or have played for 40 years, all are welcome - simply come to the Handbell Room on the second floor of Epworth Hall. Following rehearsal each week, ringers will share a meal together on campus or at a downtown restaurant. At the end of our journey together, this group will play in the Maundy Thursday service at 7:00 p.m. on March 28. Questions? Contact Michael Ekbladh at michael@fumcgnv.org.

Friday, February 16: 10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.
Sunday, February 18: 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.

Taking time to breathe in the peace of Christ through prayer is an essential spiritual practice for all of us. Prayer labyrinths were a feature of many medieval cathedrals and have been a part of the Christian tradition for centuries. Unlike a maze, they have only one path and no dead ends - they are a model or metaphor for life. The Christian life is often described as a pilgrimage or journey with God, a journey in which we can grow closer in relationship with God, and in turn, closer to others. We hope you’ll take the opportunity to visit the quiet, sacred space set up in the Fellowship Hall which includes a prayer labyrinth. The Fellowship Hall will be open at the times listed above for those who would like to spend time at one of the contemplation stations or experience prayer by walking the labyrinth . A prayer labyrinth experience is also be available to those with limited mobility. People walk the labyrinth slowly as an aid to contemplative prayer and reflection so please be mindful of others who are also walking the labyrinth.
